The survey done by the National Nutrition Council of the Philippines on self-rated hunger shows a frightful reality of the increasing percentage of Filipinos experiencing hunger, poverty and undernourishment. The on-going perils seem to endure as the price of fuel is constantly increasing and present a major threat to the hunger situation.
Antique was identified among the many provinces in the Philippines with a very highest case rate of malnutrition and gradually increases every year according to FNRI-DOST. The Department of Education is implementing feeding program in the elementary level but this was not sustained in high school. The data on nutritional status reveal that malnutrition still exist in secondary level. Barbaza MPC developed the special concern program to at least reduce cases of severely wasted and wasted nutritional status among students in Grade 7.
In support of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) as approved by the National Nutrition Council Governing Board through NNC-GB Resolution No. 1, s. 2012. Barbaza MPC is committed to the attainment of its goals, of making every member sufficient through measures specific on nutrition – related targets. Its dream of having every malnourished kid should have adequate food and nutrient requirements by adopting children until it shall gain its healthy condition.
Pursuant to this effort, BMPC through the Gender and Development Committee seeks partnership with the Local LGU, Department of Education and other relevant government agencies to pursue intensified action to promote proper nutrition and balance diet, hence this feeding project is conceptualized.
