Sugod Bahay 2020

The Elderly Filipino Week is an annual celebration by virtue of Proclamation No. 470 issued by then former President Fidel V. Ramos in 1994 to highlight the important role of the senior citizens. The primary purpose of this celebration is to recognize the vital role of the elderly society and their contribution to nation – building, it also highlights awareness and promote advocacy on elder abuse prevention.

It is embedded in us as Filipinos the virtue of respect and care for elders. As part of Barbaza MPC social responsibility, Sugod Bahay is a program designed to recognizes the value of our elderly people and help them appreciate the existence of the cooperative in the community.

Barbaza MPC branches identify indigent and abandoned senior citizens and provide them of their basic needs base on the pre – identified needed supplies or materials such as but not limited to groceries, folding beds, roofing, ply wood, electric wires, electric fan, mosquito nets, households’ utensils, etc.). The coop staff will then “sugod the bahay” of the beneficiary and surprise them with gifts of basic supplies and materials.

26th Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) slated with the theme “Healthy and Productive Aging Starts With ME” advocates the wellness of Filipino elderly particularly access to basic health and social services to ensure their health and well-being amid the ongoing health crisis.

This year, we have scheduled a synchronized implementation of Coop’s Filipino Elderly Week or Sugod Bahay Program on October 17, 2020, Saturday.
